In 2006, in Ivrea (Turin), the National Industrial Film Archive (Archivio Nazionale Cinema d'Impresa ) was opened accordingly between the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (National Film School, Italy), the Piedmont Region establishment, the Ivrea Municipality and Telecom Italia Inc., in order to store and spread the visual items realized within the Industrial film.
The Archive, settled in a former nursery by Olivetti designed by Mario Ridolfi, is storing about 5,000 film reeels made starting from Early 900 by firms like Borsalino, Breda, Innocenti, Montecatini, Montedison, Edison, Fiat, Olivetti, Recchi, Martini, Rancilio, Aurora, Italgas, Birra Peroni, Breda, Aem Milano, Necchi, Metropolitana Milanese; Veneranda fabbrica del Duomo; some Research institutions as Enea; advertising production companies like Film Master and Rectafilm.
The Industrial film represented - since the 30s to the 80s - an important section of corporate politics, and produced thousands of documentaries today establishing a precious heritage to re-build the economic and social Italian History, more generally our Age’s memory.
The industrial Archives’ rediscovery is also allowing to improve some production fields into Italian Cinema which were forgotten for a long time, reintegrating into some important filmakers’ filmography some works they once made for the Industry film.
The Archive is storing indeed some works by: Michelangelo Antonioni, Alessandro Blasetti, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Silvio Soldini, Dino Risi, Valentino Orsini, Ermanno Olmi.
