Since 2024, Film Commission Torino Piemonte is committed to good environmental sustainability practices, referring, thanks to the collaboration with Festival CinemAmbiente, to what is indicated in the “Guida Festival Green” protocol developed by AFIC (Italian Association of Film Festivals). Among the actions that Film Commission Torino Piemonte is committed to implementing are:
- participation in national working groups on the topic;
- collaboration with Regione Piemonte in the activities of the "Aiuti a imprese cinematografiche e audiovisive - Piemonte Film Tv Fund" - Programma Regionale FESR Piemonte 2021-2027, in which, in order to verify compliance with the principle of "not causing significant damage to the environment" (DNSH), the applicant for the benefit is required to sign a disciplinary protocol of sustainable development for the certification of audiovisual productions, followed in the reporting phase by the presentation of the results of the final audit, approved by a certifying body;
- reduction of paper use: a digitalization strategy has been implemented to minimize the use of paper, which not only significantly reduces paper consumption, but also facilitates access and sharing of information, contributing to more eco-friendly and technologically advanced events;
- digitalization of information materials;
- communication, promotion and press office with materials distributed almost exclusively online, managed through the website, social media and other virtual channels;
- use of recycled or certified paper for materials that require printing, for which recycled or certified paper is used according to standards such as ECOLABEL, FSC / PFSC or equivalent;
- selection of low environmental impact printing houses, favoring suppliers that certify their services as eco-sustainable;
- venue equipped with separate waste collection;
- abolition of plastic for all event activities, such as networking lunches and cocktails, with the use of glass, steel and ceramic with an alternative in biodegradable cellulose;
- preferring in every possible case public transport by train rather than plane for guests' journey, with consequent reduction of CO2 emissions;
- organization of the start/end of events compatible with the departure times of Public Transport, encouraging their use also through information regarding the best routes to reach and leave the event;
- where possible, provision of a shuttle service for participants with at least Euro 4 vehicles, electric or hybrid, from the main train/bus station to the event, providing the departure times on the site allowing visitors to know them;
- production of ecological and useful gadgets, such as tote bags, without specific references to the edition of the event, which allows reuse on different occasions, avoiding unnecessary waste;
- reusable accreditation lanyards: they have been designed without specific references to the edition of the event, to be used over several years, reducing waste and promoting sustainable use of resources;
- identification of event locations equipped with a catering service that is attentive to waste separation and the destination of food not served, and to its use targeted to actual needs.
The activity of Film Commission Torino Piemonte on the issues of environmental sustainability began even earlier, in 2015, with:
- the creation of a base of suppliers in the area, both specialized and non-specialized, who can help the production to find materials and services with maximum eco-sustainability characteristics. In this sense, the agreement signed in 2016 with SMAT, the subsidiary of the Città di Torino that manages the aqueduct, was particularly important. Upon request, it can provide drinking water for the set via distributors (columns) that replace plastic bottles: in this way, a medium-small film can save up to 1,200 bottles, equivalent to 1.8 km of plastic not produced;
- the activation of protocols for the best ecological management of a set. In particular, within the framework of the virtuous path between Italian Film Commissions and Edison, the oldest energy company in Europe, which created the Edison Green Movie protocol, already operational since 2011, Film Commission Torino Piemonte and Edison signed an agreement in 2016 to collaborate synergistically in promoting sustainability on film sets.
