A plain of fields under a grey sky at the end of winter. Patches of bush and artificial ponds dot the flat rural landscape. This is the world of Luca, a solitary and silent young man. After working as a mechanic in a workshop on the edge of the countryside, where agricultural machinery is repaired, he wanders among the few isolated farms and stables. He walks through the fields, selling pills to other workers who work on the cow farms. One evening, Silvia, a girl a little older than him, gets off a bus that stops in that countryside. Her arrival deeply disturbs Luca, whose mood is already shaken and fragile. The pain he carries inside binds him to her, who has returned after a long period away. When Silvia asks him to help her fix an old scooter damaged in an accident, Luca finds himself face to face with his past, with the trauma that imprisons him, and thus chooses to face it.
The Repair tells the story of the processing of a trauma. It is the story of a character trapped in a condition of suffering, in which a glimmer of hope opens up, the possibility of a way out, represented by human contact with another person. I am interested in working on the emotional aspect of the transition from a condition of painful isolation to the re-establishment of a vital and affective relationship with others. The protagonist, Luca, is tormented by the remorse of not having been able to protect those he loved, until someone comes to break his shell of anguish. In my vision, this is also a short film about responsibility. Chance plays a significant role in our lives, which are subject to forces that go far beyond actions and their consequences. Perhaps we must recognize it as an integral part of life, accept it, and be able to open a door to hope, despite the anguish generated by the sense of precariousness in which we live.
