Clarissa, a lawyer traveling for work, is stopped at a customs checkpoint. What appears to be a routine inspection soon turns into an increasingly intrusive interrogation by two officers, Gianluca and Mathieu. Behind the façade of normalcy, Clarissa is hiding a secret: in the trunk of her car, inside a suitcase, lies a child. The discovery shatters the balance and triggers a chain of instinctive and dramatic reactions. As the tension escalates, the physical border becomes a metaphor for moral ones—between legality and humanity, duty and compassion.

Beyond the Border was born from a shared urgency: to explore the ambiguity of a time in which borders—once symbols of openness, mobility, and exchange for our Erasmus generation—are beginning to close again. In today’s Europe, marked by fear, migration crises, and growing security measures, we wonder how much longer we can take freedom of movement for granted. Our film starts from an ordinary situation and gradually fills it with tension and uncertainty, portraying a physical border that becomes a space of control, resistance, and moral choice. Clarissa, the protagonist, commits an act that challenges our certainties: is it a crime, or a gesture of humanity? With a restrained gaze and without moralism, we aimed to let silences, doubts, and the cracks in today’s Europe speak for themselves—a Europe that may no longer be the one we once knew.
