The life and artistic experience of Franco Fontana, a photographer known throughout the world, on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday. The story is divided between images of him and those of art history, to seek correspondences and affinities, to create a complete film on his work. A master of color who made the invisible visible, with passion, love and courage, with humility and time to understand that what we photograph is a reproduction of ourselves. The story develops between his images and those linked to the history of art and the correspondences with contemporary works Ritcher, Rothko, Hopper, Kandisky, Mondrian are just some of the artists with whom Fontana's work interfaces between a hippy and Pop culture and with references to the impressionists Seurat and Manet. Fontana's warm voice and his presence will be the leitmotif of the film accompanied by some important witnesses, authoritative curators, a historic gallery owner such as Valerio Tazzetti from Turin, friends and collectors such as Francesca Lavazza and students who have traveled and are traveling with Franco the most important phases of his career.
The intentions of the film expand in Fontana's photography and in the new way of reading his images, outside the traditional canons of history and photographic criticism, towards the gaze of contemporary visual arts. His work hides references to painting, sculpture, cinematography, music and literature, making use of linguistic styles ranging from avant-garde to Impressionism, from Pop Art to Land Art. The documentary reflects Fontana's relationship between reality and abstraction: narrating man and his stylistic and artistic research, investigating the relationship between the individual and art, in a world that increasingly tends to memorize, and therefore photograph, any moment without a creative process; insert Fontana into the context of contemporary art, with landscapes, cities and bodies that become mental and interior spaces. A work of reduction and elimination of the superfluous that Fontana implements, which the film will respect.
