Through a journey back in time, Ilan, a 13-year-old boy, relives the drama of his imprisonment in the Auschwitz concentration camp - 80 years after its liberation - accompanied by extracts from Primo Levi's concentration camp literature. This main narrative is interwoven in a strongly evocative way with Ilan's reflections, whose text will be the result of interviews and reflections by children who are confronted with the dramatic events of the Shoah today, and with the voices of survivors who were the same age as our protagonist at the time. This imaginary dialogue will be elaborated through the hybridisation of animation techniques, re-elaboration of period archives and virtual set filming. With an innovative stylistic approach, the programme aims to create a visual and textual mosaic of great emotional impact designed to stir the consciences of younger audiences.
This man is a promo-experiment of a children's documentary made through a hybrid language that stems from the intention to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp on 27 January 1945. The documentary, intended for a young audience (10-13 years old) aspires to become a tool for the living memory of the Holocaust through the preservation and dissemination of Primo Levi's work, preserving the importance of his testimony that is still able to dialogue with the new generations. Considering the still scarce attention paid to the genre of documentaries for children (Kids Docs), this project aims to become a forerunner in the Italian panorama, soliciting attention towards a necessary form of storytelling starting from a theme of great relevance such as the Shoah.
