A Freedom Route is a historical documentary that narrates, through biographical paths, the human and political journey of some internationalist anti-fascist fighters in spain's civil war (1936-39). A journey that develops through the locations where the events took place, having as its ideal center the political confinement colony of ventotene, a central crossroads in the events that were fundamental for the resistance and the birth of an idea of europe.
We decided to realize this documentary because we want to create a historical narrative tool on a period of the 20th century which we believe is fundamental for understanding the present, which has a strong emotional and artistic value and which therefore can be suitable for the widest possible audience, with particular attention to young people and students. the confinement of ventotene was a key moment in the history of the country, here the leaders of the partisan movement, future leaders and fundamental figures in the history of the republic were formed, here were born the ideas that led to the birth of the european union, for this and for other reasons it is essential to make a documentary that narrates the events.
