The car with which Marty travels through time in "Back to the Future," and with which he flies thanks to its gull-wing doors, was designed by a master of design: Giorgetto Giugiaro. Famous for having created over 300 models and prototypes of production cars - from the Panda and the Golf to supercars like Maserati, Lotus, and many others - Giugiaro is the protagonist and the heart of the documentary. We will listen to him telling his story, and we will see him drawing a dream he has in mind: his latest project, which is a return to his first love, painting. It is a triptych of three 5-meter by 20-meter canvases for the church of Garessio, his hometown. By following him in the preparation of the canvases and through the stories of how some of his iconic cars or even simple everyday objects, like a water bottle, came to be, exploring the relationship between form and substance, creative freedom, and functionality, "Back to the Future" is a journey around the nature and method of an industrial design that has set the standard worldwide. It gets dreams and desires, turning a vision of the future into reality.
This work aims to be a passionate tribute to a creative genius who has left an indelible mark in the field of automotive design and beyond. It will be much more than a mere record of Giugiaro's successes; it will be an opportunity to delve deep into his brilliant mind and uncover the secrets behind his iconic creations. Through in-depth interviews, personal accounts, and archival footage, the goal is to capture the soul and passion of a visionary artist. His work has consistently challenged conventions, introducing radical ideas and cutting-edge concepts that have redefined the entire automotive landscape with bold and visually stunning solutions, turning his creations into authentic works of art. It will be an engaging and immersive experience with a lasting impact that will inspire and bring Italy and the Piemonte region into the global spotlight.
