Anita is a fifteen-year-old girl who lives with her grandparents. She has a special relationship with her grandfather Mario, who has passed on to her his passion for birdwatching. Her peaceful summer days are shattered by the sudden arrival of her mother, Barbara.
Barbara, after many years of absence, wants to see her daughter again but her grandparents oppose a meeting between the two because of her turbulent past. Anita's urge to meet her mother prompts her to lurk with her birdwatching kit from afar, as if she were one of the oasis' migratory birds…
The innate and unconscious need of a daughter who wants to get closer to her mother, bridging, through binoculars, an unnatural distance for which the reasons are unknown.
