In a documentary the story of Guido Cantelli, the young
conductor, the only Toscanini's protégé, destined to a
formidable career before the Orly plane crash thata put an
end to the his dream, at only 36 years old. Ephemeris and
testimonies of the greatest stars of today's music scene
(Riccardo Muti) and yesterday’s (among various artists who
collaborated with Cantelli), to tell the life and art of this
boy's from the Italian Province, he was born in Novara, who
became Director at La Scale in Milan and was projected into
the Jet Set of great music and on the stage of the global
revival after the Second World War.
Sixteen years ago I had the opportunity to direct two distinct
and successful documentaries - lasting about 30 minutes each
- dedicated to Maestro Guido Cantelli.
As the technology has since then moved forward, I think 2016
(the 60th since the death of the Maestro), could be an
opportunity to re-create the two films, conceiving a new
dialectical editing that can bind documentaries into a single,
coherent , story about an hour time.
The documentaries are undoubtedly the only video ever
produced organic testimony about Cantelli: if in the first
Maestro Muti joins the family and the musicologist Alfredo
Mandelli, with a significant contribution of video and
photographic archive materials, in the second along with the
cast (Sciutti, Schwarzkopf, Alva, Panerai) of Così fan tutte by
Mozart, whom Cantelli staged at the Piccola Scala the film
will offer a choral story useful for all kind of audience.
