Filming has begun on “Ritorno a Buenos Aires”, the new film by Marco Bechis, author of Alambrado, “Sons / Hijos”, “La terra degli uomini rossi” and Garage Olimpo.

The film stars Adriano Giannini, alongside a prominent Argentine cast: Ana Celentano, Vero Gerez, Olivia Nuss, Adrián Fondari and Marcelo Chaparro, together with Brazilian actress Paula Cohen.

Fabrizio La Palombara's cinematography and Jacopo Quadri's editing contribute to the film's construction.

The film is an international co-production between Italy and Brazil: for Italy, Fandango with Domenico Procacci and Laura Paolucci, 39Films with Alfredo Federico and Simona Banchi, Karta Film with Marco Bechis, with Rai Cinema; for Brazil, 34 Filmes with Patrick de Jongh, Cibele Amaral and André Ristum.

Shot between Porto Alegre in Brazil and Torino, with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte, the film follows Mariano Guerra, called back to Argentina to testify in the trial against the military who kidnapped and tortured him during the military dictatorship, the same dictatorship that organised the World Cup in 1978 while the country was undergoing clandestine repression.

The film does not tell the story of a hero's return in search of revenge, but the journey of a man who carries his own dark side within him: broken by torture, he spoke out and denounced his comrades.

As in Garage Olimpo, the violence remains off-screen: what matters is its mechanics, the way it settles in the body and perception of those who survive.

The film will be completed in the first quarter of 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Argentine military dictatorship (March 1976), an occasion that draws attention to what remains after survival.
