Two projects made with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte in the international program of the 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival: “Anywhere Anytime” and “The Damned”.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) opens its 49th edition on Thursday, September 5 and will continue until Sunday, September 15. In the program of the Centrepiece section, which collects and promotes the titles acclaimed by festivals around the world - in this edition coming from 41 countries, 18 of which in world premiere - there are several Italian titles including the debut work of the Turin director of Iranian origin Milad Tangshir, Anywhere Anytime, entirely shot in Turin with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte and also present in competition at the Settimana Internazionale della Critica of the 81st Venice Film Festival.

Written by director Milad Tangshir together with Turin natives Daniele Gaglianone and Andrea Giaime Alonge, Anywhere Anytime - produced by Young Films, Vivo film, Rai Cinema and made with the contribution of the PR FESR Piemonte 2021 - 2027 - “Piemonte Film TV Fund” call and with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte - has an entirely Turin setting and employed on the set a crew almost entirely made up of local professionals and workers (among them, the assistant director Lorenzo De Nicola, the general organizer Danilo Goglio, the set designer Leonie Heys Cerchio, the costume designer Silvia Nebiolo, the sound engineer Roberto Gambotto Remorino, the casting directors Luana Velliscig and Laura Leonardi, Enrico Giovannone for editing, and the company Imago VFX of Fabrizio Nastasi for complete post-production, management of dailies, VFX, color, finalization).

The protagonist of the story is a young 18-year-old illegal immigrant named Issa – played by Ibrahima Sambou, a non-professional actor, like the rest of the cast – who loses his job, finally finding a job as a rider but having his bicycle stolen on the first day. Issa is thus forced to do a long search in various areas of the city, between Porta Palazzo and the outskirts of Barriera di Milano, in the hope of finding his work tool.

The lineup of the official presentations of this year's TIFF program also includes The Damned by Roberto Minervini, the director's first feature-length fiction film and made with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte, which has already won the award for best director at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, in the Un Certain Regard section.

The Damned was awarded by the jury of the second competition of the French festival chaired by Xavier Dolan, who assigned the prize for best direction to Roberto Minervini - known internationally for his extraordinary quality as a documentary filmmaker - for having constructed with The Damned an intense reflection on violence within a story of the American Civil War. The film is produced by Okta Film and Pulpa Film with Rai Cinema and made with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte. The Piedmontese company Imago VFX of Fabrizio Nastasi - supervisor of the entire post-production - took care of part of the visual effects of the film, as well as the color correction, finalization and mastering.

Winter 1862. In the midst of the Civil War, a company of volunteers from the United States Army is sent to guard the unexplored lands of the West. The mission overwhelms a handful of men in arms, revealing to them the ultimate meaning of their journey towards the frontier.
