Le Déluge” by Gianluca Jodice - shot in Piedmont for 7 weeks between 2022 and 2023 with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte - will be the opening film of the 77th Locarno Film Festival.

The program of the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival was announced today: Le Déluge by Gianluca Jodice will be the opening film, the story of the last days of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette and their children in 1792Le Déluge is an Italian-French co-production made in Piedmont for 7 weeks of filming (between December 2022 and March 2023) with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte in the locations of the Savoy Residences, at the Ducal Castle of Agliè, the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale, the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi and the Stupinigi Park of Nichelino, locations and municipalities involved thanks to the Foundation's Rete regionale.

Directed by Gianluca Jodice, who also wrote the screenplay with Filippo Gravino, the cast of Le Déluge includes Guillaume Canet and Mélanie Laurent as Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, but also Aurore Broutin, Hugo Dillon, Tom Hudson, Roxane Duran, Anouk Darwin Homewood, Vidal Arzoni and Fabrizio Rongione. The two French stars starring in the film, Mélanie Laurent and Guillaume Canet, will receive this year’s Excellence Award Davide Campari, given to personalities who have made their mark on contemporary cinema.

Alongside the big names of the crew, such as Daniele Ciprì (Director of Photography), Massimo Cantini Parrini (Costume Designer), Tonino Zera (Set Designer) and Aldo Signoretti (Wig and Hair Designer), there were numerous local professionals in the crew, which involved a large number of local workers including Stefano Blisa (Production Secretary), Emanuela Minoli (Location Manager), Chiara Moretti (Coordinator of Extras), Carlotta Desmann (Set Decorator), as well as a large number of special extras.

The feature film will be screened on August 7 at 9:30 pm in the Piazza Grande section, the soul of Locarno: 8,000 seats and one of the largest screens in the world for special guests who are awarded during the Festival on the stage of Piazza Grande.
