Yesterday, on the occasion of the XXXVI edition of the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, the notice to participate in the fourth edition of "Guarda che storia! Tales for the screen" was opened.
Publishers can submit their works from today until the 21st of September.
Sunday 12th of May saw the launch of the fourth edition of "Guarda che storia! Racconti per lo schermo", a project by the Film Commission Torino Piemonte and the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino aimed at discovering novels and original stories to be adapted for the small or big screens.
An initiative that confirms as its main purpose that of enhancing the creativity and professionalism of female and male authors as well as publishers, aiming to discover original stories that have the characteristics and potential to become screenplays for both the big and small screen.
To this end, a process aimed at facilitating dialogue between the publishing world and that of cinema and television production will be proposed: an opportunity for the finalist projects which will allow the selected authors or publishers to benefit, free of charge, from an introduction to the audiovisual industry and culminate in the "pitching session" during the next TFI Torino Film Industry (November 2024) and in participation to the 2025 edition of the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino (taking part in the Rights Centre, in May 2025). Both occasions will represent opportunities for authors and publishers to meet, dialogue and exchange ideas with film producers in order to deepen the potential of adapting their stories.
The call for application will make it possible to select an approximate number of seven novels published within the last three years and suitable for adaptation for cinema and television serialisation, and will offer authors and publishers the opportunity to present their project to an audience of producers and decision makers of the national film and television world during the 7th edition of the next TFI Torino Film Industry - Production Days (November 2024).
Also confirmed for this year is the offer of a training session, i.e. a workshop in preparation for the final pitch - held by an expert in the field - that will enable participants to learn techniques and methods for presenting their project.
Until the 21st of September, those interested can apply by following the instructions given in the "Guarda che Storia!" section of the Film Commission Torino Piemonte website and the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino website: applicants may submit up to 3 literary works published in the three-year period 2021, 2022, 2023 of any genre (graphic novels included), explicitly set in Piedmont or that can realistically foresee a cinematographic/audiovisual production in Piedmont (in whole or in part).
All the participating titles will also become part of the "Book Database", a new section that can be visited on the Film Commission Torino Piemonte website, aimed at presenting the finalist projects of each edition together with all the novels submitted.
An archive of stories, ideas and characters to be transformed into feature films or TV series that can be consulted by anyone, available to the public and professionals, a showcase for publishers and authors, open to the world of film and television production.
With "Guarda che Storia!" the promoting institutions once again confirm their willingness to collaborate and strengthen the project that in its first editions attracted the interest and participation of the publishing world (more than 130 titles were nominated for the third edition) and of cinema and audiovisual professionals who were present at TFI Torino Film Industry and at the Rights Centre of the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino.
