The "Piemonte Film Network" presents itself in Cannes in an event organized by Film Commission Torino Piemonte and Museo Nazionale del Cinema – TorinoFilmLab, together with the Regione Piemonte and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
The news in the spotlight: the Piemonte Film Tv Fund of the Regione Piemonte which provides 12 million euros in the three-year period 2023-2025, the 15 years of the TorinoFilmLab which, presented at Cannes in 2008, has contributed to the creation of 171 titles between films and international series by awarding over 6 million euros, the Piemonte Film TV Development Fund to support the development and design phase of films and TV series and finally the announcement of the 6^ edition of TFI Torino Film Industry.
The "Piemonte Film Network" was presented today at the Cannes Film Festival, in an event organized by Film Commission Torino Piemonte and Museo Nazionale del Cinema – TorinoFilmLab at the Italian Pavilion of the Hotel Majestic, in the presence of the Regione Piemonte and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, to testify the attention and support that the public and private bodies of the territory continue to reserve for the Piedmontese cinema system.
An opportunity – that of the prestigious French event – to present to the decision markers of the national and international audiovisual the news, opportunities, funds and facilities that the Piedmontese cinema system makes available today to the entire film sector, showing a dynamism and a complex of offers ranging from support to large productions and independent productions, to higher education, at industry events.
Among the remarkable hightlights is the Piemonte Film Tv Fund of the Regione Piemonte which, starting this year and for the next three years, increases its endowment from 1.5 to 4 million euros a year in favor of film and audiovisual production, also opening up to animated cinema: a significant increase – the result of a shared path that saw the strong involvement of Film Commission Torino Piemonte and the producers belonging to the trade associations CNA Cinema e Audiovisivo Piemonte and Cartoon Italia - which will concretely contribute to the further attraction and realization of high-profile and internationally relevant films and TV series, after the success of titles such as Miss Marx by Susanna Nicchiarelli, Tigers by Ronnie Sandahl, Amanda by Carolina Cavalli, La Legge di Lidia Poet by Matteo Rovere and Letizia Lamartire.
A few days before the opening of the first 2023 call – from 2 May to 6 June, with a budget of 2.5 million euros – the Piedmont Region presents for the first time the news of the fund to the international production system.
Another important innovation is the presence for the first time in Cannes of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, which has long supported the film sector with various initiatives and projects in the sector, in particular the industry days coordinated by FCTP. In line with its strategic objectives, the Foundation recognizes that the Piedmont cinema system is a driver of development with an important economic impact on the territory, for a sector that much more than others is able to activate resources and funding and generate significant effects. To confirm and strengthen this commitment, for 2023-2024 the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo will act in design and economical terms to support the new Piemonte Film TV Development Fund as part of an agreement with the Regione Piemonte and the Film Commission Torino Piemonte. The action, with the goal to develop fiction projects for cinema and TV, is aimed at growing local production companies, guaranteeing support for the design phase of the audiovisual product and attracting non-Piedmontese production companies, encouraging them to settle and invest in the territory. This action will see a set of promotion and enhancement activities in Italy and abroad and a series of calls, the first of which will open in the coming days.
The front of training, development and support of films sees at the forefront the TorinoFilmLab, laboratory of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema born right on the Croisette in 2008. The TFL is also a financing device, with more than 6,300,000 euros given for production and distribution, as well as an innovation hub thanks to initiatives that anticipate the needs of the sector, such as Green Film Lab.
